Australia is fucking huge. Taiwan has 23 million people all on an island 1/2 the size of Tasmania. Greater NYC, Mexico City, etc. all have more people than all of Australia. This report is utter BS. Australia could easily accommodate 10 times it's current population. The fact that people only want to live on the coasts is a different matter. There is quite a lot of liveable land, it only needs people to go out and settle it.

The actual land mass size is completely irrelevant, At the very least, the influences that matter are sustainability, harshness of climate, lack of water, the cost and challenges of buiding an infrastructure in a desert etc. I suggest you spend a couple of years studying the Australian continent before drawing such uninformed and simplistic conclusions.
